Please add a delete post option so we can delete the post ourselves if we change our mind. I'm not surprised by this at all. Owenton also cut ✂️ the GED program & Family Dollar went out of business also & has been sitting empty ever since. Owenton doesn't have a hospital & u have to go to Frankfort to renew your ID or driver's license. Owenton has abandoned houses & buildings as well. Owenton is dead sometimes during the week & on Weekends. They still have school going on though. Owenton just isn't what it used to be. Owenton is an embarrassment.

The Owen County Fair has been canceled for 2020 thanks to Covid-19 where there are now 22 cases in Owenton. A lot of people are upset 😡 but I can understand why the carnival people didn't want to travel to Kentucky this year because it just isn't worth the risk. The fair wasn't that good to begin with but it did raise some money for Owen County. I guess Owen County can still try to do something this year if they want but I just don't think they're going to to be perfectly honest. The Coronavirus is starting to spread in Owenton so everyone has to do their part to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Yes, well some people do have an issue with the Confederate Flag. It's just like what happened with that Michigan Couple. The white woman bumped the 15 year old African American girl coming out of the Chick-fil-A. The black woman & her daughter instigated the whole thing by calling the white woman racist & threatening her husband. The black lady hit the back of the white couples minivan & that's when the white lady jumped out & pulled the gun on the black lady & the white lady in the video can be heard yelling back the f*** up!!! The black lady & her daughter tried to make it about race. The white couple was charged with Felonious assault & arrested & they also lost their jobs because of that bs! Race Tensions are high in this country right now. Nascar did ban the Confederate Flag thanks to Bubba Wallace who got booood!!!! & people cheerd when Bubba Wallace crashed his car. People are upset at Nascar because they banned the Confederate Flag. In small towns like Owenton though, the earlier comments are correct, nobody cares if you fly the Confederate Flag or not. It's your 1st admement right to do so. The debate over the Confederate Flag will continue I guess because a lot of people argue it's their right to fly it if they want to & they aren't wrong about that.

Boone County changed it's logo & a lot of parents weren't to happy with the change which I completely understand. Owen County is keeping it's name. Racial Tensions is high in the United States right now. Trump supports the Confederate Flags & so you have angry people calling Trump a traitor. Most people argue that The Confederate Flag is a traitors Flag & should be locked in a museum. Some people who support the Confederate Flag say the reason they fly it is because to them, that Flag represents their love for fishing & hunting & they support Southern Pride. It's a continued battle over The Confederate Flag. It's not that way in Owenton. Owenton is mostly white people. Very few blacks call Owenton home. People in Owenton respects your right to fly the Flag. Owenton doesn't fly the Confederate Flag though at public buildings. It's your first amendment right to fly the Confederate Flag if you want to do that but just don't be obnoxious about it. There is some public places though where it's not a good idea to wear the Confederate Flag namely Cowboys in Owenton but I don't know because the people that own it are foreign. It does offend some people so you want to be considerate of other people's feelings. The Confederate Flag is a cool looking symbol so I think that's why it's a very popular or it has a lot to with the fact that it's popular. It's also on the General Lee in The Dukes of Hazzard. Love that show.

I actually support the Confederate Flag in Owenton Kentucky but you don't see it nowhere in Owenton but people in Owenton do have them. The High School banned the Confederate Flag. The Owen County Rebels logo however does resemble a Confederate General on horse back if you look closely at it. Most people in Owenton don't even care if you fly it or not after all, Owen County is a small town & people don't really care what you do in a small town. Fly the Confederate Flag if you want to because I see nothing wrong with it.

Everything has shutdown in Owenton as a precaution of the Coronavirus. I don't think the Coronavirus has had much of an impact here in Owenton as it has in other places. I don't know if there have been any Coronavirus cases in Owenton but I hope not. Went to Family Dollar & they were all out of hand sanitizer which is crazy. Owenton is looking like a ghost town with everything shutdown.

I guess that's called doing favors to people who don't even deserve to be on the council in Owenton. Owenton is stuck in the past. The council is a joke. Lulu's garden in Owenton will now have 22 layoffs. Owenton is a joke. Adam Gaines don't even have a clue how to make a small rural town like Owenton successful. I think it would benefit Owenton greatly if Owenton was voted wet because that would mean great things for the city of Owenton. Sparta does receive Owenton tax dollars because people in Owenton go to Sparta to purchase their alcohol. If Owenton received those tax dollars from the sale alcohol, that would help Owenton out tremendously. The surrounding counties around Owenton are all wet. Frankfort, Dry Ridge, Florence & Sparta are wet counties. It has helped those counties big time. The people in Owenton want to live in the past for some reason. News Flash to Owenton residents, if you care about Owenton & want great things for the city of Owenton & want to see Owenton thrive then vote Owenton wet because like it or not, that's the only way it will ever happen!!! Signatures sought for county wet/dry vote Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at 6:00 am (Updated: December 18, 6:02 am) For the third time in just eight years, a petition for a countywide wet/dry vote is once again circulating. The petition reads, “We the undersigned registered voters hereby petition for an election on the following question to be held on the May 19th 2020 Primary: ‘Are you in favor of the sale of alcoholic beverages in Owen County? ’” A yes or no option is not given on the petition and is only asking those in favor to sign. A letter of intent to initiate the petition process was filed in Owen County Clerk Laurel Stivers’ office Nov. 22. Before the option could be placed on the May 19, 2020 Primary Election ballot, Stivers said the petition must garner 933 certified signatures. Once the number of signatures is met, the clerk’s office, along with Owen County Judge-Executive Casey Ellis, must validate each signature to make sure signees are registered to vote in Owen County. The number of signatures needed represents 25 percent of the number of votes cast in the last general election, which Stivers said was 3, 731. If the petition receives the number of valid signatures needed, the petition would need to be filed at the clerk’s office before it could be placed on the 2020 Primary Election ballot. Since 2011, wet supporters have made numerous attempts to make all or parts of Owen County wet. In 2011, 53 percent of registered voters turned out to vote in the countywide wet/dry election. Voters rejected the proposal by 270 votes. The issue went to the ballot once again in 2016, with a total of 23 votes deciding the election. The “no” vote carried every precinct except South Owen, Monterey and Gratz, as well as absentees. In 2014, a move to make the City of Owenton moist passed by 66 votes, meaning restaurants with a seating capacity of at least 100 persons and which derive 70 percent of their gross receipts from the sale of food may sell alcoholic beverages. Earlier this year, the Owenton City Council voted to amend its alcohol ordinance to allow those restaurants to apply for a limited Sunday drink license. License holders may now sell liquor by the drink between the hours of 1 p. m. -10 p. m., Sunday. / I'm calling on all voters in Owen County please help make Owenton a wet county! Don't let these goody to shoes get their way to keep Owenton dry! Owenton needs to be wet period! Let's help make Owenton wet so the people in Owenton can decide if they want to purchase alcohol or not. Let's all help make this happen & vote Owenton wet! our tax dollars go to Sparta! Sparta is hoping it don't pass if it gets on the ballot. Sparta wants to keep getting Owenton tax dollars. Let's all help put a stop to Sparta getting Owen County tax dollars. Let's make 2020 the year that Owenton is voted wet!!!

Have you taken a look around Owenton lately?, It is a small rural town after all. The reason Owenton doesn't have anything is because a railroad was never built to Owenton. I understand that when a majority of the voters voted Owenton to stay dry, that upset & alienated people who wanted Owenton to be wet. I would say Owenton might be wet if it passes but I doubt that it will ever pass to be honest. I understand there might be a situation where you can't leave Owenton because you don't have the money. I would say to that save your money & try to earn some money & leave Owenton if your not happy with the way things are going in Owenton right now. Let's face facts here, Owenton is always going to be a small little town that has nothing unless someone does something to change that fact. Owenton can't compete with places like Florence, Frankfort & Dry Ridge Kentucky. Owenton doesn't even have a hospital. If you want top quality entertainment & Healthcare then Owenton isn't for you. Owenton is more for people who are rich, people who hunt, fish, camp & hike & things like that. When I say Owenton is for people who are rich & wealthy, I have 2 good examples of that. 1 is Elk Creek Hunt Club, Have you seen those prices they charge??? That would break a rich man up! 2 is Bird Dogs Coffee. They also charge an arm & a leg which is outrageous. I also have another example which is that winery place in Owenton. They have prices sky high there. Owenton is for rich people basically & the places I mentioned above just proves my point. If your poor or you live in poverty & you live in Owenton, your screwed basically because Owenton has that mentality every man for himself type of deal. That's the vibes I get from Owenton. Owenton has to be one of the poorest places in Kentucky. Hazzard Kentucky is like that also but Hazzard is a little bit bigger then Owenton. There isn't any jobs in Owenton & even there was, you do something wrong just one time & you risk getting fired & that would suck. Owenton is ok if you have a vehicle but if you don't have a vehicle, a city is where you want to be, not a small rural town out in the middle of nowhere.

I guess I could look into that. Technically, you don't need a driver's license to buy a vehicle but you do need a driver's license to drive it off the lot. Theoretically, I could purchase a vehicle & have it delivered to me or something like that then find a licensed driver to teach me how to drive. since, I live in an apartment, I need to haul all my furniture up to county barn & I need a vehicle to do that. The rest of my stuff, I can just throw away. I however will look into buying a scooter or something like that as you suggested. your right, it is better then nothing. I need to come up with a substantial amount of money to help me leave Owenton because there is no way of getting around the money issue unless u want to live out on the street & take your chances which I don't. If I can come up with some money, that could open some doors for me allowing me to leave Owenton behind but the first step would be finding a way to take my furniture up to county barn so I guess I will tackle that problem first. when I don't have possessions to worry about then I can finally leave Owenton if I find a way to do it. Well, as far as paying someone to teach me how to drive, I don't think I can afford that because I have my rent, electricity, cell phone & credit card debt plus food & things like that because I'm barely scraping by as it is but I guess I could look into a driving school if I knew where to begin my search. I don't know if you can rent a car for the road test or not. I want to leave Owenton but I need a vehicle to do it because I am going to need something to sleep in when I leave Owenton but at this point, I think a driving School is the only option I have left. driving schools cost money so I have to find one that's cheap.

Tiger, U R so right. People R moving from Owenton every week basically & at the rate people R leaving Owenton, businesses like Meadowview Shopwise & Save-a-Lot will be screwed. Owenton desperately needs new businesses 2 locate in Owenton & because Owenton is not wet, that won't happen anytime soon. The people in Owenton screwed Owenton by not voting Owenton wet but that's people in small rural communities 4 U. Now that Minches Hardware is out of business, I don't know what's going there next. Larry Tackett Men's Warehouse in Owenton is still in business but I don't know how since they R sky high & don't get many customers. Southern States is doing really well only because they sell farm stuff. I'm sure it will eventually go out of business because at the rate Owenton is losing people, Owenton will be a ghost town in 5 years or less.

The only think keeping Owenton Kentucky afloat is Meadowview Shopwise, Family Dollar & Dollar General, Save-a-Lot & McDonald's. That's the only thing Owenton has going for it. Owenton is never going to be like it once was because those days are gone. If you don't have a vehicle or a driver's license & you live in Owenton then you are screwed basically. Owenton has the Fairgrounds so if your feeling bored then I guess that's something to do at least. Owenton is so boring because there is nothing & I do mean nothing to do. I remember when Morgan & Thomas sold comic books & stuffed animals. Owenton has gotten so bad now that u r better off leaving Owenton if u can because you will be doing yourself a favor. That abandoned house beside the old Saveway building needs to be condemned because it's an eyesore. Owenton is ok as a retirement community I guess but not to live in.

I hate to see Owenton Kentucky in the shape that it is now. Owenton Kentucky has deteriorated so much that it's pretty much a ghost town at most times of the day. Minches Hardware is out of business & the reason they went under was because nobody was shopping there anymore. The old Saveway building is for sale & I guess they will have a very difficult time selling it. Family Dollar & Dollar General seem to be doing fairly well. The crime rate in Owenton is steadily increasing at an alarming rate. Heroin has overtaken Owenton. This town has nothing for nobody. Have you seen the Owenton Kentucky Christmas Parade? What a joke! Owenton has all of these abandoned buildings & houses like that one across from the car lot near the alley. There is a lot of land in Owenton that could be developed but the city isn't doing anything about that. The Owenton City Council is a joke just like Owenton is a joke. Owenton used to have a lot of stuff like Morgan & Thomas but now, that's all gone. Bird Dogs Coffee isn't helping Owenton as I can tell because I hear that place is only for rich snobs. Owenton's GED program went under because people in Owenton don't care about getting a GED. In Owenton these days, it's like every man for himself. Owenton has a cop car parked at the Fairgrounds so that just goes to show you how lame this town really is. Mayor Adam Gaines is a joke as well. Terry Gentry is alright tho. I just wish Owenton could get something in this town for entertainment but that won't happen until this town becomes wet.

Believe me, I want to learn but I'm 41 years old. I don't have family or friends around to teach me how to drive. I don't have access to a vehicle to take the road test & I also need at least 120 hours of practice behind the wheel. I don't know anyone in Owenton to teach me how to drive. basically, I'm screwed because getting a driver's license is my only hope of leaving Owenton.

I'll admit that I have lived in Owenton my whole life which is 41 years & I've never owned a vehicle & I never learned how to drive. I have to push my groceries home from Meadowview in a shopping cart. I just can't afford a vehicle to be honest. I'm on disability. I walk around Owenton & I get plenty of exercise. I know if you live in Owenton & don't have access to a vehicle or don't have a driver's license which I don't, your pretty much screwed so that sucks for me but there is nothing I can do about it because it is what it is.
