KY 52 has a lot of traffic. Some houses are close together. There needs to be some zoning there. The junk and trash in people's yards needs to be cleaned up. You don't have a right to be naked or smoke cocaine in your yard. Why should these people and businesses have piles of junk and trash in full view of the road? People who defend someone's right to have piles of junk and trash in their yards are SICK IN THE HEAD. As Ms. Farmer said...you can't be a trail town if you are a trash town. We need ATVs coming into town and spending money here. I am SICK of vacant buildings in town. Bring Irvine back to life...clean up your yards people!

In my opinion we will never see the end to the corona virus. It is a virus we will have to learn to live with and we’ve actually been doing that for some time now, it’s not new. Vaccinations help us get back to normal life (not wearing masks and lower hospitalizations) quicker but much like the flu it isn’t going to disappear, ever. Endemic. If my employer makes it mandatory to be vaccinated I want proof that everyone has gotten it in my work place. I will not be getting it so that leaves a lot of lawsuits for my fellow employees. Discrimination. I’ve never had the flu, strep or corona virus. I am also on immunosuppressant medication. I refuse this vaccine as well as the flu shot. I am all for the vaccines that I’ve taken thus far but I draw the line at forcing and rewarding this one. There’s something not right about this whole situation. China is making moves and we’re sitting ducks over vaccines. We might as well say goodbye to our country and hand it over to China. I’m paying attention. Everyone else should too. We have a bigger problem than COVID-19!!

My heart goes out to anyone who has lost a family member prematurely even if the person who died wasn't a good person. If a young person dies during a violent robbery, they had it coming but you cant help and think "Oh what might have been". This town is failing its young people. They are either leaving or dying early in WAY too many instances. While the clowns running this community don't have a clue how to improve the local quality of life. Too many Estill Countians don't demand more from their elected county officials. As long as they are NICE or GOOD HONEST people, that is ALL they care about. We the people of Estill County should demand MORE.. . either you work towards a local pool, factory and better highways or YOU ARE FIRED. Donnie watson is a good old boy who first won a race during President Reagan's first year of office. He can blame the pandemic all he wants.. but he has no goals. He has ignored the local trash problem.. . roadsides covered in trash.. . the drug problem.. . the declining population.. . the early deaths in this county.... the underdeveloped park off Dry Ridge Rd.... etc.. . We need a new guy in the office.. Someone like Kevin Williams, John Isfort, Donna Isfort, Joe Crawford, etc..

Madison County voted for Trump as did the counties in the far northern part of the state. It isn't politics. We elect candidates we think are nice and good. Roads like KY 89, 82, 1571 and others have a fairly high volume of traffic. Poor visibility. No berm along the roadsides to pull over if your car stalls. Steep hidden curves. Winchester and Spout Springs roads have shed much blood in the last several decades. Local people accept it, say prayers for those who perish and then shrug it off..& forget it. These roads have caused orphans and parents to bury children. There is no community involvement in trying to make these roads safer. At least they could bulldoze more space along the roads for improved visibility. You don't have to be speeding, on your phone or drunk to lose control especially when it is raining. I try to avoid these roads when raining if possible. These roads are bloody. And nobody cares unless it is someone they know.

We need individuals with stamina. We need goal oriented county officials. We need county officials who spend more time away from the desk and out into the county. Fiscal court meetings need to be on YouTube or live facebook streaming. The cities of Irvine and Ravenna don't even have facebook pages. HELLO this is the 2020s. I believe ALL cities should be required to have facebook or twitter sites. You have to WORK to lure in new jobs to the county. You can't sit on your butt and expect jobs to locate here. Work man...work! Jeff Saylor kept fighting for a new vocational school and we got one. Yes he was told early on that we wouldn't get one here but he kept fighting. Ms. Watson was told that Estill County wouldn't get a new library but she kept fighting and we got one. The same thing could happen with the industrial park. We need fighters and not ones who wave the white flag of surrender telling us to not expect any industrial firms to come into this county. You can't sit on your butt and expect new jobs to come into this town. The local groups here work hard but lack money and connections to the political and business community outside the borders of the county.

Now we have to go to Richmond for just about everything. And nothing seems like it is going to change. IGA is gone. It has been a long time since River Drive had a food mart or grocery store. Ridiculous. I remember when Irvine had Maloneys, A and P, Kroger, Food World which had a bakery, Jeans and Things, New Item Store, Ben Franklin, Watsons, Alexanders, Western Auto, Sundry Store etc.. We had car dealerships. Several furniture stores...several jewelry stores. Now this place is so dead. Makes me want to weep.

Brandon Newcomb in Irvine, KY who is living with Ashley Hall is a liar, conman and junkie thief. He’s also a talented electrician, plumber, mechanic, and general construction handyman. I would have never worked with him were it not for the referral from a 20 year friend who he also duped apparently. And at first. He was exactly as advertised. Great work. Great rate. But the time to complete the work drug on and on. No problem. Time. Quality. Cost. You can only pick 2. Right? He came across as a nice guy just needing to get a break. My dog loved him. My friend that recommended him, her dog, who hates EVERYONE but her, loved him. Against my better judgment, and because I have such deep compassion for people working to make it; when he and his girlfriend (NOT Ashley at the time) lost their apartment near the end of a major job I hired him for, I let them have my spare room for 4-6 weeks to help them out and also thought this should help him finish the job easier. In that time, not only did he lie to me about the status of the work I hired him for, he took advantage of my mental illness and my symptoms which cause me to clutter (not hoard just clutter my house) and on the last day he was in my home used that to his advantage to steal all of the following: My 2 security cameras and DVR/Harddrive My 2nd Generation Apple TV (no power cord or remote) My DVD player A 20+ year old RCA surround sound system and all the speakers but left the remote. I have the manual for it if you recently bought one from him on marketplace My PlayStation 2 and TWO guitar hero guitars. My VCR A Sears/Diehard car/boat battery charger/jumpstarter And worst of all? My digital camera and SD Cards with hundreds of irreplaceable photos of my late parents and my late 17 year old Jack Russell Terrier. I don’t care about any of the rest of those things. They can be replaced. But the photos? I was so angry about that I wanted to hire someone to kick his ass for me. But that’s illegal. I’ll have to trust karma to do it for me. I found random IDs and a social security card from guys in the spare room. Maybe he’s doing identity theft or doing something else to get those IDs. I have no idea. But when I found heroin and a syringe in that room? If my precious pup had ODed? I’d be in jail right now for murder. In conclusion? I realize that that SOB stole something else precious to me. Either he or his complicit girlfriend flagged my Craigslist post for removal so I’m going to post it here now. Brandon Newcomb in Irvine, KY who is living with Ashley Hall is a liar, conman and junkie thief. He’s also a talented electrician, plumber, mechanic, and general construction handyman. I would have never worked with him were it not for the referral from a 20 year friend who he also duped apparently. And at first. He was exactly as advertised. Great work. Great rate. But the time to complete the work drug on and on. No problem. Time. Quality. Cost. You can only pick 2. Right? He came across as a nice guy just needing to get a break. My dog loved him. My friend that recommended him, her dog, who hates EVERYONE but her, loved him. Against my better judgment, and because I have such deep compassion for people working to make it; when he and his girlfriend (NOT Ashley at the time) lost their apartment near the end of a major job I hired him for, I let them have my spare room for 4-6 weeks to help them out and also thought this should help him finish the job easier. In that time, not only did he lie to me about the status of the work I hired him for, he took advantage of my mental illness and my symptoms which cause me to clutter (not hoard just clutter my house) and on the last day he was in my home used that to his advantage to steal all of the following: My 2 security cameras and DVR/Harddrive My 2nd Generation Apple TV (no power cord or remote) My DVD player A 20+ year old RCA surround sound system and all the speakers but left the remote. I have the manual for it if you recently bought one from him on marketplace My PlayStation 2 and TWO guitar hero guitars. My VCR A Sears/Diehard car/boat battery charger/jumpstarter And worst of all? My digital camera and SD Cards with hundreds of irreplaceable photos of my late parents and my late 17 year old Jack Russell Terrier. I don’t care about any of the rest of those things. They can be replaced. But the photos? I was so angry about that I wanted to hire someone to kick his ass for me. But that’s illegal. I’ll have to trust karma to do it for me. I found random IDs and a social security card from guys in the spare room. Maybe he’s doing identity theft or doing something else to get those IDs. I have no idea. But when I found heroin and a syringe in that room? If my precious pup had ODed? I’d be in jail right now for murder. In conclusion? I realize that that SOB stole something else precious to me. Avoid running with the wrong crowd. Somewhere I read that Estill, powell and Lee were in the top 10 counties in the US (not just KY) when it comes to reduced life expectancy.

Too many bored kids on drugs, dying in car accidents due to wreckless driving, drowing etc.. I am SICK of seeing obituaries of local teens, 20 somethings and 30 somethings. Stop dying young people. Our life expectancy is going down while the bigwigs who strut in Michael's restaurant every Sunday DO NOTHING to make this community more liveable. West Irvine Cemetery, South Irvine cemetery, Turpin Cemetery, Sunset Memorial Gardens and so many small cemeteries are full of people under 50. In this modern age of medical advancement, people should go into their 70s, 80s and 90s. I believe some parents don't want to raise their children here lest they bury them in their lifetime. I am FED UP with seeing obituaries of young people in our papers and funeral websites. Let's tackle this issue head on.

For anyone accusing me of being negative, I am a realist. For way too long, we have been hearing about better things in the future and the future never comes. We have had our hopes dashed WAY TOO MUCH. I have lost confidence in this community. A few people want to run it and they don't want anyone else involved. A few here want to get involved in every little cause... you can't be on every board and be successful. There is so much apathy in this town. The people in the western part pretty much work and shop in Richmond anyway.

We can't even have a decent park or a recreational center with a pool. I can't get excited about being a trail town or a rail town. I believe that the rail revival won't live up to potential. And don't look for any nice trails being built through the county. Estill County gets no respect. We don't make connections and reach out to the money sources. We are kind of backward and want to hang off to ourselves.

Burger King, Taco Bell, Long John Silvers, Lees, KFC, Dairy Queen, and I am probably missing something. Stanton's food court is thriving thanks to gorge tourism and through traffic from eastern KY, Stanton has a Dairy Queen as does Clay City. And they have Long Johns and Arby's. Oh, Arby's is the other fast food place to leave Estill County. What a shame. I do think the location of some of these places hurt after the Joseph Proctor bypass was completed. Someday someone will get smart and put something near Roses cash and carry-high school students and teachers plus trucks to landfill would keep 2 places open.

Get a new road from Michaels to the Miller's Creek bridge bypassing the one lane bridge and underpass. Build the new road on the opposite side of the river. Given that ambulances from Lee and Owsley counties frequent that route and increase traffic to the Lee County prisons, a better road is needed.

I hope they move the clerk's office over to the old BB and T building. The current building is too small and difficult to travel around in an electric wheelchair. I know some local people can't stand change but change won't kill them. I wished the deed room had more space and privacy. The lack of space between the counter and door in the county clerk's office is a violation of the American's for Disability Act of 1989. The clerk's office needs to be moved.

We wonder why there are so many of our young people dying long before their time. There is nothing to do in this little town. We don't even have a PUBLIC POOL. Fleming County has a public pool... they have a similar population to Irvine. Our county leaders have cried that they are broke for many years. How about trying to shake up the big money donors? How about an online paypal link to a website? I don't believe the local leaders have put forth much if any effort to get a swimming pool in this county. The small town drama, boredom and gossip have destroyed many of our young people. And the lack of recreational activities has forced people to move to other counties and states. Estill County is within the commuting distance of the Lexington-Fayette KY metro area. The problem is the lack of fun stuff in the county. As close as we are to central KY, we should be booming. We need nicer parks, hiking trails, a swimming pool, archery range, indoor sports etc.. Even poorer and smaller counties have some of those activities.

Why can't they renovate this old school as a welcome center at the edge of a trailhead to Cottage and Fitchburg Furnaces? Would make a nice place to spend the night. The gym would help walkers exercise in the winter. One of the Backstreet Boys is an alumni of this school. It wouldn't cost that much to make the building safe. It doesn't have to comply to school system safety standards.
