THE HIDEOUT ON THE ROCK
(Air: The Oul Alarm Clock)
It happened up in Blessington,
In November sixty-nine.
Justice wasn’t evident
And the day was far from fine.
The Gardai got contrary
And they gave to me the knock
In their effort for to camouflage
The Hideout On The Rock.
I was told “We’re going to charge you
With the burning of a rick”
By Nash and Brown and Sullivan
And Tighe, (him being so thick.)
If the facts had been before me
I’d have got an awful shock;
Had I known ’twas all a cover-up
For The Hideout On The Rock.
Then on a day in early Spring
(But Winter mists hung down)
A daring raid was carried out
In Rathdrum’s lonely town.
The Gardai combed the district
And kept vigil round the clock.
To ensure the culprits’ safe return
To the Hideout On The Rock.
The next landmark in the story
Is Dublin’s Arran Quay;
A zealous guard was there shot dead
On a sunny April day.
To search West-Wicklow homesteads
The Gardai soon did flock,
But somehow or other chanced to miss
The Hideout On The Rock.
When the boys from Dublin Castle came
They saw it was too late,
But still a mounted “sub-Machine”
Stood focused on the gate.
The ‘spied the dump of weapons
When they forced the master lock.
Brown trousers day for Sullivan
At The Hideout On The Rock.
The Blessington patrol-car
Brought out spades to delve the lands.
There was talk of hidden money
And of Gardai’s blistered hands.
Unless they thought some Leprechaun
Had left behind his crock,
They’d know no buried treasure lay
Around Or Near The Rock.
The action that those Gardai took
Might puzzle you or me
But their Sergeant came from Kerry
Where all murderers go free.
I hear they pushed him sideways
To a station in Cool-lock
To reward him for the part he played
In The Hiding On The Rock.

Curraghnawall Topix/Craigslist replacement » Elizabeth Beirne Gaffney
Does anyone have information on the Beirne family?
Elizabeth (Eliza/Bessie) Beirne (born circa 1808-Feb 7, 1899) married Patrick Gaffney (circa 1816-1871) and resided in Curraghnawall.
The couple had at least two children both born in Curraghnawall; Rose Gaffney Farrelly (April 9, 1856-April 9, 1937) who resided at Cornageeragh whilst married and Philip Gaffney (born circa 1860) who married Margaret Geoighigan.
Elizabeth Beirne Gaffney was my gg-grandmother and Rose Gaffney Farrelly was my g-grandmother.
Rose’s daughter and my grandmother Mary Anne Farrelly Boland (1884-1926) emigrated to New York City in 1905 and married Edward Boland, a Co. Clare man in 1913. Mary Anne’s son James Patrick Boland (1919-1977) was my father.
It would be helpful to learn the names of Elizabeth Beirne’s parents and/or her siblings? Was the family originally from Curraghnawall?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to build a family tree for my nieces and nephews.
I wish all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
Pax Christi tecum,
Sharon Boland
Feagh West Topix/Craigslist replacement » Feagh East
Can anyone help me with Feagh East please? My grandfather was born in 1876, 25th of December, so very seasonal. 1911 census there were 18 houses, Shaughnessy shared house 10 with Mc Hugh, house 13, was Patrick Shaughnessy & Mary (Joyce) Shaughnessy. I think Patrick died after being involved in an accident in 1913. £69. 15. 0. was the probate to wife Mary.
I really would like to know, which would be the nearest Catholic Church, and or graveyard. I have looked on Google maps but there is very little shown in the search for 13 Feagh, just two houses, which are not from 1911.
William is burried in Barnton, Northwich, Cheshire, no information about either grandparents has been passed down to my generation, so we know what he is, and where he is, but nothing else. He wrote on his WW1 paperwork that he was the son of John Shaughnessy, Abby (no e) County Galway.
Any help would be very much appreciated, GB grandson.
